How to become a Habitat Home Owner? First off all you must apply. The Family Selection Committee, 12 members strong, can only decide from the written applications.
The 2017 family selection is now in progress. Please stay tuned for the next meetings.
Please contact the Habitat Store (Frants) if you have any questions.
Health & Safety: Your present housing in Lake Chelan Valley is not adequate, and you are unable to obtain adequate housing through conventional means; lack of adequate housing may include problems with the present structure: water, electrical or sewage service systems: heating systems; or failure to meet city property maintenance standards; the number, ages, and gender of children, compared to the number of bedrooms in your home is disproportionate, as defined by Habitat for Humanity.
Ability to Pay
You spend more than 30% of your monthly income on housing and your total income is less than 60% of the county's median family income using current year figures. Since you will actually be buying your home from Habitat, you must demonstrate your ability to pay the monthly mortgage payment and that you have paid your bills in the past. We will help you determine if this payment will jeopardize your ability to meet all other family financial obligations and expenses.
Willingness to Partner
You and your family must complete up to 400 hours of volunteer work with Habitat, otherwise referred to as "sweat equity," before becoming a homeowner. These hours are earned, primarily, by assisting in the construction of your home or other Habitat homes. Other opportunities for earning sweat equity hours include, providing food for volunteers and volunteering in the Habitat store.
Equal Housing Opportunity Lender
The selection of families who will purchase homes from LCV Habitat for Humanity will be done by the Family Selection Committee using these criteria in a way that does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, handicap, religion, marital status, or because all or part of the applicant's income is derived from public assistance programs.
